Kondopoga

Kondopoga is situated 70 kilometers away from Petrozavodsk. It was first mentioned in the middle of the 16th century. The development of the town is connected with the construction of water power station and the paper mill at the beginning of 1920-ties. The status of the town was obtained in 1938.

In the recent years Kondopoga has become an important cultural and sports center of the republic. There there is the Ice Palace where the school of figure skating is organized and the hockey matches are held. The Palace of Culture has one of the largest organs in the north-west of Russia. The majority of tourists visit this small town every year to enjoy the concerts of Russian and foreign organists.

Just 15 kilometers away from Kondopoga there is the Kivach nature reserve.
