Destination Pudozh

Pudozh

The largest build-up area on the eastern coast of the Onega Lake is the town of Pudozh. The settlement Pudoga was firstly mentioned in 1362. Development of these territories began thousands of years ago. The major occupations of the inhabitants of the land were hunting and fishing. And the petroglyphs on the Onega Lake strand are the evidence of that. This place — Besov Nos — is an attractive tourist object of the Pudozh District.

Pudozh got the status of the town in 1785. This small town could easily boast of its successfully developing trade, there were 3 glass-producing plants built on the area of the town and Pudozh flax was being sold throughout the whole Europe. Today Pudozh is a peaceful provincial town.

This is a taiga land and marshes, rivers and lakes have spinned a water web amidst the woods. One of the most fabulous places in the District is the Vodlozersky National park.
